Utah's Abortion Rate Hits Historic Low, State Report Finds

inricristo.org

New state data shows Utah's abortion rate fell to a historic low in 2016, continuing a downward trend that comes amid a national decline.

The new report from the Utah Department of Health shows there were 4.2 abortions performed for every 1,000 women ages 15 to 44. That's the lowest figure since 1975, the first full year Utah tracked abortions.

Utah's abortion rate has been on the decline for the last several years. The new data reverses a small uptick from the year before and brings the rate below the previous low of 4.3 abortions per 1,000 women in 2014.

Nationally, the most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention puts the U.S. abortion rate was at its lowest level in decades at 12.1 abortions per 1,000 women in 2014.
