Semi-trucks carrying a variety of Utah-made food products left Salt Lake City last week and headed to Washington D.C. for a Taste of Utah event. The event will be hosted for the second year by Senator Mike Lee and will give United State senators and representatives a chance to sample some of the many food items produced in Utah.
“Utah really is a food manufacturing Mecca,” said Dave Davis, president of Utah Food Industry Association. “We have some of the best companies that are manufacturing high quality, fantastic products.”
Food products from around the state will be featured at the event including Beehive Cheeses, Creminelli Fine Meats, Slide Ridge Honey, and JulieAnn Caramels to name a few.
“It’s really kind of a wonderful opportunity for us to be able to showcase the breadth of everything that’s being produced here in Utah,” said Ryan Barnes, director of in-store deli and prepared foods for Associated Foods, the event sponsor. “Because we have everything from small, sole proprietor companies that are producing things out of really, truly small businesses that employing just a few people to some of the large businesses throughout the state that are producing products for the masses.”
The sampling event will be hosted in D.C. on July 25 in honor of Pioneer Day by Senator Lee and the Utah delegation.
“This event is not only an opportunity to showcase, but it’s really a great example of teamwork and really the pioneering spirit that is so ingrained here in Utah,” Davis said.
