Fonnesbeck Appointed District Court Judge In Northern Utah

Gov. Gary R. Herbert has appointed Angela F. Fonnesbeck as a judge for the First District Court, saying she has been a tremendous asset to the First District Juvenile Court.

Before being appointed to the juvenile court in 2014, Fonnesbeck established her own private practice in 2009 and has experience as a public defender. She holds a J.D. from the Washington College of Law at the American University and received a double B.A. in Politics and Asian Studies at Whitman College.

In 2017, Fonnesbeck ruled in the case of 14-year-old Deserae Turner. Two Cache Valley teens were accused of attempting to shoot and kill  the Smithfield girl. Fonnesbeck transferred the two boys to be tried in the adult system.

Her appointment is subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate. If confirmed she will serve as district court judge for Box Elder, Cache and Rich counties.

Fonnesbeck has been appointed to fill a vacancy created by Judge Kevin K. Allen’s who retired in October.
