Senator Deidre Henderson To Be Spencer Cox's Running Mate

Utah State Senate

On Thursday morning, Lt. Govenor Spencer Cox announced Utah state Senator Deidre Henderson would be his running mate for Utah's 2020 gubenatorial race.

Henderson began her political career working for Jason Chaffetz's 2008 campagin. In 2012 she was elected to represent Utah Senate District 7, which covers the south-western part of Utah County. Cox's annoucement on Thursday follows Henderson's announcement on Wednesday that she would no longer be seeking reelection for a third senate term.

In a video announcing Henderson as his running mate on Facebook,Cox said he met her in 2018 during the The Pole Creek and Bald Mountain Fires. He said it was her leadership during this time of crisis that led him to select her.

“One of the things that most impresses me about Senator Henderson is her willingness to do the right thing regardless of the consequences," Cox said in the video.

Henderson will be filing as a candidate at 10 a.m. on Thursday.

In a press release, Cox stated that Henderson would be taking on campagin responsabilites as he continued to lead the task force to address the spread of Coronavirus in Utah.
