Authorities at Brigham Young University’s Idaho campus are investigating reports that students are purposefully exposing themselves to the coronavirus in hopes of selling their plasma after they recover.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports university officials said in a statement that anyone confirmed to have done so will be suspended and possibly dismissed. People who have recovered from COVID-19 and have the antibodies can receive larger payments for donations of their plasma, but a spokeswoman for one plasma center says getting it on purpose is ludicrous. Coronavirus cases on and around the campus have sharply increased in recent days.
