Births Plummet But Utah Population Continues To Grow

Utah’s population swelled by an estimated 52,820 people during the fiscal year that ended July 1, 2020 as a yearslong economic boom ended and the pandemic and its recession began. The Salt Lake Tribune reports the hotbed of growth in the state was Utah County. Overall, Utah had its lowest number of births in 21 years despite its longstanding status as a state with big families and a high birth rate. A nearly equal number of people moved into the state according to new figures from the Utah Population Committee. The panel was formed by the Legislature.
