Utah Expected To Receive Johnson & Johnson Vaccines Next Week

According to Gov. Spencer Cox, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine should be available in Utah next week. The vaccine was recommended for immediate use by the FDA’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee Friday and FDA approval is expected to come this weekend. A press release from Cox’s office stated they expect the state to start receiving these vaccines on Wednesday.

The vaccine is authorized for those ages 18 and older and once Utah receives doses, they will be distributed according to pre-existing eligibility standards. The press release stated that “a single-dose vaccine, like this one, has great potential to protect people who may be less likely to be able to get a second dose.” The vaccine is also supposed to be easier to store, which will help get it to more communities across the state.
