Strong Winds Could Knock Out Power, Cause Fires In Parts Of Utah

Rocky Mountain Power is preparing for possible wildfires and widespread power outages as strong winds move across Utah Thursday.RMP tweeted that “forecasted high winds combined with fire weather conditions and updates by the National Weather Services” have its staff prepared to respond to any power outages. A “Public Safety Power Shutoff Watch” is in effect, which would allow the company to shut off power to help control any wildfires. This method will only be used as a last report, the company noted.<--break->The National Weather Service reported wind gusts as strong as 45 mph Thursday morning with winds expected to speed up in the afternoon. Reductions in visibility from flying dust and debris is also highly possible.
