Utah Hospitals Seeing A Rise In Heat-Related Illnesses

The record high temperatures in Utah have more people than normal heading to emergency rooms seeking relief from the heat. Senior medical director for emergency medicine and trauma operations Dr. David Hasleton says ERs at Intermountain Healthcare have seen a rise in visitors in the past few weeks. He says “dehydration has been the biggest concern and challenge” they are seeing right now.

Hasleton says emergency rooms across the state have already been really busy due to COVID-19 patients, making it a far busier summer than normal.

Hasleton says, in order to avoid heat-related illness, to plan around the heat and to bring more water than you think you’ll need.
