The Utah National guard is celebrating 75 years of service to the state of Utah and the country. The Roland R. Wright Air National Guard Base sits on the corner of the Salt Lake International Airport and has housed the many men and women who have served throughout the base’s existence.
Master Sgt. John Winn says the Utah Air Guard was actually created before the U.S. Air Force. He says as soldiers were coming back from World War II, they would stop in a “little rinky-dink shop” in Salt Lake City.
Today, the base houses several different resources, including explosive experts, firefighter soldiers, military police, disaster response and more.
