'Avengers: Endgame' Movie Review with Casey

With a running time of over 3 hours, I thought I might need a colostomy bag to get through this film. But like many Marvel superhero films, it's a long ride but an entertaining one.

The last Avengers film, Avengers: Infinity War, released in April 2018, left us with half the universe's population gone forever. So this latest Avengers film takes us on an epic adventure where the remaining members of the superhero team try to alter the course of time and bring back the people they once lost.

Avengers: Endgame is a historically significant film culminating after the massive series of multiple superhero story arcs in 22 different films, the first one being Iron Man from 2008. With offhanded explanations of time travel, and outrageously convenient pieces of technology, Avengers: Endgame is not a flawless magnum opus. But it's impossible to ignore this film is a worldwide pop culture event. It's a defining film for this generation of movie viewers. Avengers: Endgame is full of surprises, thoughtful dialogue, visual effects that completely transport you, and a few appearances from characters you thought you'd never see again. All of these elements keep the film very well-paced and well-balanced; meaningful in the quiet moments, arresting in the dramatic moments, and exciting in the fast ones.

I'm glad I saw this movie to see for myself how this series of films reaches its climax. But I'm also glad this series of films is over. Heroes are great. They're important (especially in film). But now I'm looking forward to seeing other kinds of heroes.
