Utah Governor Gary Herbert speaks during the 150th-anniversary celebration of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad in front of the Jupiter and No. 119 replica train engines.

Last Friday was the 150th anniversary of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad. Train enthusiast, curious tourists and local Utahns gathered at Promontory Summit to celebrate the life-altering railroad that connected the nation.

UPR’s Dani Hayes was there and brings us the audio story.

Interested in more railroad stories? UPR created a full-hour audio documentary called "Ride The Rails." It explores the effects the railroad had after the completion of the transcontinental. It can be found by clicking here.
