How Japan Teaches Math: An Introduction for Parents, Educators, and Homeschoolers

How Japan Teaches Math: An Introduction for Parents, Educators, and Homeschoolers

The public is invited to How Japan Teaches Math: An Introduction for Parents, Educators, and Homeschoolers, a workshop at the Logan library Thursday, February 5 from 4:45pm–5:45pm

Japanese students are known for strong problem-solving skills and deep conceptual understanding of math. But how does their classroom experience differ from what many of us grew up with?

Join Dr. Satoshi Kusaka, an associate professor from Japan and editor of Japanese elementary math textbooks, for an insightful talk on Japanese mathematics education. This adult-focused presentation will explore the philosophy behind Japanese math instruction, how lessons are structured, and why productive struggle, discussion, and multiple solution paths are central to learning.

This program is ideal for parents, homeschoolers, educators, and anyone interested in alternative approaches to teaching and learning math. No math background is required, just an interest in education and how children learn.
