Gov. Cox Issues Proclamation Celebrating Pride

Governor Spencer Cox issued a proclamation Tuesday, officially declaring June as LGBTQ+ Pride month. He is the first Utah governor to do so, according to FOX 13. Cox proclamation encourages “conversations about what it means to love each other, understand our differences, and support our LGBTQ+ friends and family members.” It also acknowledged the higher levels of mental health challenges for those who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. It says Utah should work to “cultivate a climate of inclusion and unconditional love for all.”

Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall praised the governor’s proclamation, saying “it’s about celebrating the diversity that exists” all throughout the state. She said it is “appropriate and welcome” that our governor finally recognized that diversity.
