Modern-day Thelma And Louise In Iron County

usbr.gov

Law enforcement in Colorado have their counterparts in Utah to thank for bringing in two female fugitives from the Centennial State, but not before a short high-speed chase and crash in Iron County.

Cedar City Police responded to Walmart on a shoplifting call just as the suspects’ vehicle was leaving the area. A check of the license plates showed the car was stolen out of Colorado. The officer turned on his emergency lights and the driver began to flee. The pursuit went south on Interstate 15, reaching speeds of over 120 mph. As one point the vehicle collided into a passenger truck also traveling south on the freeway.

The suspects exited the freeway at Hamilton Fort, but due to excessive speed, the driver could not maintain control, running off the roadway and though a fence. Both female occupants then attempted to flee on foot, but were apprehended with the help of an off-duty Utah County sheriff’s deputy.

24-year-old Kylee Sales and 31-year-old Elizabeth Perkins were booked into the Iron County correctional facility on charges including: fleeing from police, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, retail theft and drug offenses.
