House Bill 147, sponsored by Rep. Lowry Snow (R-St. George), proposes repealing the death penalty and replacing it with a possible sentence of 45 years to life. House Speaker Brad Wilson (R-Kaysville) and House Majority Leader Mike Schultz (R-Hooper) told KUTV reporters today that they do not support the effort. The bill has not yet been discussed in a committee hearing this session.
