Cocktails & Ideas: "Why We Need Each Other"

Cocktails & Ideas: "Why We Need Each Other"

Dr. Lisa Diamond presents "Why We Need Each Other: Social Safety, Stigma, and The Biology of Belonging" at Varley , 63 West 100 South in Salt Lake City on Wednesday April 22nd. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Drawing on her groundbreaking research in developmental and health psychology, Dr. Lisa Diamond explores how social experiences shape our biology in ways most of us never realize. Even in the absence of overt harm, many people move through the world in a quiet state of vigilance – what Diamond describes as carrying “danger antennas” through daily life.

In this intimate conversation, Diamond reframes stigma not just as a social experience, but as a biological one, and invites us to rethink what it truly means to feel safe. From friendships to chosen family, she examines how connection influences our nervous systems, our health, and our capacity to belong, and what becomes possible when we start building cultures rooted in care.
