Salt Lake Community College's invites the public to a Community Conversation with Frances Haugen, American engineer, data scientist, product manager, and Facebook whistleblower. Frances is the former Lead Product Manager for Facebook’s Civic Misinformation team. While there, she became alarmed by the choices the company made in prioritizing their own profits over public safety. At great personal risk, she made the courageous decision to blow the whistle on Facebook in 2021.

The event is on November 7 at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) in the Grand Theatre on the South City Campus. There will be a 45-minute panel discussion with local experts regarding social media’s impact on teens’ mental health immediately following the presentation. Frances will offer a book signing from 8:30 to 9 p.m.

The event is free, but tickets are required and available through The Grand Theatre.
