Utahns Make Plans To Expand Medicaid

Utah Decides Healthcare is an initiative that hopes to extend Medicaid healthcare coverage to single adults without children and families that have annual income between $20,000 and $26,900.

“Lots of polling over the years, really since the passing of the ACA, and those polls have consistently shown that Utahns want this,” said Lincoln Nehring, a volunteer for the Utah Decides Healthcare group.

Like other supporters, Nehring is trying to get the 113,000 signatures from registered voters needed to put the initiative on the November 2018 ballot.

Utah voters like Frank Ascione are shocked that this expansion hasn’t happened sooner.

“It is inconceivable to me why the Utah state legislator continues to refuse federal funds to expand Medicaid in this state," he said. "There are plenty of studies that illustrate that the savings to the state and the benefits to the state far outweigh any possible costs that would be incurred.”

Initiative supporter say they can’t be completely sure how much this expansions will help Utahns until it is implemented.
