California Cancels Help From Utah Firefighters

Utah fire crews that were preparing to go to California to help fight wildfires have been told to stand down for now. The Utah Department of Emergency Management confirmed that California cancelled requests for help under the Emergency Management Assistance Compact.Crews that have been in California assisting with the state’s largest fires, such as the Dixie Fire, are returning home now. Fire fighters from West Valley returned home Monday night, two days earlier than expected.

2021 has been a record year for fire aid from Utah to other western states.

A spokesperson from the Utah Department of Emergency Management says it is still possible Utah crews will be needed in other western states that are dealing with fires. So far, only California has cancelled requests for help.
