Unvaccinated workers in long-term care facilities are posing a threat to Utah’s most vulnerable population. Cases are once again rising inside nursing homes and assisted living facilities. About six residents in long-term care facilities are testing positive for COVID-19 statewide everyday, according to state data. One month ago, there was only about one person testing positive per day.
Some facilities are implementing restrictions again to keep residents safe. Executive director of The Ridge Klint Burningham says they have all begun wearing masks again. In addition, 99% of the residents and all of the workers are vaccinated, according to Burningingham. He says there haven’t been any COVID-19 cases in the two locations he oversees in months.
There are two facilities, a memory care center and a veterans home, that currently have the largest outbreaks in Utah. Each is reporting 11 to 20 residents who’ve been infected.
