Scott Miller, the chairman of the Salt Lake County Republican Party, resigned Sunday morning following backlash over an email he sent that questioned the motives of women when they accused GOP member David Robinson of sexual harassment and bullying. The email was sent out on Friday in anticipation of an article detailing the allegations with the Salt Lake Tribune published on Saturday afternoon.Aimee Winder-Newton, a GOP member who is also a Salt Lake County Councilor, posted a screenshot of Miller’s resignation email on Twitter. Miller said he had made a mistake with how he handled the women’s complaints.
Miller’s departure comes after Utah Gov. Spencer Cox and Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson released a joint statementSaturday, calling Miller’s letter “reprehensible.”
On Saturday, Miller sent a follow-up email, which said he applauds the women for coming forward. He said he takes these allegations “seriously” and encourages any accusers to come forward in the future.
