Transgender Utahns can now list the sex they identify with on state government records, such as their driver’s license, thanks to a ruling from the Utah Supreme Court on Thursday.
According to reports from the Salt Lake Tribune, the decision came after a wait of over three years. The court ruled 4-1 to overturn a ruling that plaintiffs Sean Childers-Gray, a transgender man, and Angie Rice, a transgender woman, could not have their legal sex designations changed on state records.
The decision should ensure that no matter where transgender Utahns live in the state, they will be able to correct the sex listed on their driver’s licenses and birth certificates.
