Zesty Garden- July 18

Jul 19, 2013

Who wants bugs for breakfast? How 'bout afternoon tea? The U.N. is trying to get people to accept bugs as food. Listen to the program to find out why...

What would you say to a meal of chocolate covered grasshoppers? How about cabbage, peas n crickets or caramel popcorn cicadas? While it may or may not sound appetizing, the United Nations  food and agriculture organization is trying to make a case for why insects should be on your dinner plate.

USU Extension Entomologist, Diane Alston, is in studio and will give her take on the both the nutritional and taste profile of her favorite insects.

Also on the program, you’ll learn how to properly stalk raspberries on the latest “Petals and Prose” from Nancy Williams.

Whipples Penstemon

On “Take a Hike!” you’ll find huckleberry and whipple penstemon among  just a few of the plants you’ll see on the coldwater trail near tony grove, and you learn why Norway maples are considered a noxious weed in the eastern U.S. with our latest edition of “Wait, Wait…Don’t Plant That!” from USU extension forestry specialist, Mike Kuhns.
