Challenges and Revelations of Autism from Utah Film maker on Wednesday's Access Utah

A mother talks about the gap between when her son is seen as "normal," and when he's seen as "not normal."  She's talking about his invisible disability - a disability which at first glance isn't readily apparent, and includes intellectual impairments such as autism. Given the misperceptions and mistaken judgments people with invisible disabilities frequently encounter, a film, “Invisible Disabilities:

The Problems of Perception,” looks at ways families address such problems and how they work with communities to address safety: Invisible disabilities can be a safety issue when police don't know what they're dealing with. Our guests include nationally known autism expert Temple Grandin; filmmaker Jenny Mackenzie; Betsy Burton, owner of The King’s English Bookshop, whose son, Nicks, is one of the invisibly disabled men featured in the film; and William McMahon, chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Utah School of Medicine.
