Ecology & the Great Salt Lake on Friday's Access Utah

www.ut.water.usgs.gov

The Great Salt Lake is so big, it is visible from outer space.  This so-called "Dead Sea" is a Utah gem and is teeming with life.  It hosts millions of migratory shore birds, hordes of aquatic insects, algae and of course brine shrimp.

On Friday's AU Sheri Quinn talks with Utah State University ecologists Wayne Wurtsbaugh & Nancy Huntly about the lake and Friday night's Science Unwrapped lecture featuring the Great Salt Lake.

In part two of the program, we hear about research happening at USU on the ground. Guest Daniel McGlinn contributed geographic and climate data for a collaborative project, which looked at how plants have evolved from early tropical and humid habitats to withstand the frigid temperatures of modern temperate climates.

Sheri's career in radio began at 7 years old in Los Angeles, California with a secret little radio tucked under her bed that she'd fall asleep with, while listening to The Dr. Demento Radio Show. She went on to produce the first science radio show in Utah in 1999 and has been reporting local, national and international stories ever since. After a stint as news director at KZYX on northern California's Lost Coast, she landed back at UPR in 2021.
