It now has a name. What locals were calling the Swains Creek Fire is now being called the Shingle Fire by Color Country Fire Management Authorities, after Shingle Mill Canyon where the human caused wildfire started on Sunday.
Fire Managers report a rapid progression of the fire toward communities, major power lines, SR-14 and US highway 89.
Evacuations are in effect for the communities of Swains Creek, Stout Canyon, Ponderosa Village, Harris Flat, and Elk Ridge.
Officials from Garkane Energy also reported that they have cut all power to the area to protect infrastructure from damage once heavy tankers begin to drop retardant on the area.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the fire had burned more than 8,000 acres.
