Cox Says Schools Can Drop Mask Mandate During Last Week Of Classes
Utah won’t require masks to be worn in K-12 schools during the final week of classes, Gov. Spencer Cox announced Thursday. However, he added local school districts could choose to continue the mandate if they felt it was appropriate, according to Deseret News.Cox said he felt like the decision was a “really solid compromise opportunity” because many superintendents across the state had asked for an end to the mandate. He also said waiting until the end of the school year to lift the requirement would allow children to stay home if they were uncomfortable being around large groups of mask-less students.
Cox made clear that Utahns have the choice of whether to wear masks or not and encouraged everyone to be “respectful of the choices that are made.”
