Update On Utah Firefighters In Oregon

Utah firefighters are among thousands working to contain the nation’s largest fire in the Oregon forest.Unified Fire spokesperson Patrick Costin says the fire is difficult to contain because the weather keeps changing and because of its sheer size. He says due to the size, they have to pick and choose which hot spots to work on, rather than have a crew in every potential problem spot.

Costin says the firefighters from nine Utah communities have been working 14-hour days with a daily two-hour commute back to the camp. Costin says, despite the hard work, it “feels great to help out neighboring states.”

As of Tuesday, half of the fire was contained. Firefighters from Utah expect to be back at the end of the week.
