App To Allow Utah County Republicans Vote Remotely In Caucus

Utah County Republican Party

Making caucus meetings more accessible to voters has been a high priority for Rob Craig since he became chair of the Utah County Republican Party last May.

“One of the problems that we have in our caucus meetings is the length of time it takes to both register and vote on caucus night," Craig said. "That challenge has been drawing people away from attending because of the length of meeting it creates.”

This year Craig aims to reduce the registration and voting time by using the Voatz app instead of a paper balloting process. This app allows individuals to prepare for caucus night by registering before.

On caucus night, they can then vote for their delegates whether or not they are at the meeting.

Facebook Live is another tool some precincts may use to make their caucus meetings more accessible.

“The person that can not attend because other reasons," Craig said, "there’s a good portion of them that would enjoy watching the election process of who they’re electing among their neighbors or friends to be representatives or delegates or precinct leadership and they can actually participate remote because of this app and because of technology like Facebook Live.”

Individuals who attend caucus night and can not vote on a personal mobile device will be given a card with their name and a QR code. They will be able to use this card to vote with the app on devices that will be provided at the event.
