Romney and Owens Snubbed From Salt Lake County’s Delegate List

According to reporting from the Salt Lake Tribune, Sen. Mitt Romney and Rep. Burgess Owens were left out of the Salt Lake County GOP’s official list of delegates that was submitted to the state ahead of the party’s state convention this weekend. The party has a rule that any elected official who lives in the county is automatically a delegate to the county and state convention. Unfortunately, the party didn’t follow its own rules and the two members were left out of the list that included over 950 delegates.

It’s debated whether Romney and Owen’s absence is a mistake or if it was done purposefully. Newly elected party chair Chris Null says the snubs went unnoticed until after the April 22 deadline for submitting delegate lists. He said the Republican party will “make every effort to ensure this does not happen again.”

Null said the party will try to give Romney and Owens delegate status soon, but it probably won’t happen until next year.
