Lilacs are not native to the west, but they were brought here by the early pioneers and have adapted well to our climate. Lilacs often point the way to original homesteads as they continue to hang on with the little moisture they receive. Give them a little extra water above what mother nature provides in Utah, and they thrive.
However, there are a couple of insects that also appreciate lilacs. Depending on the cultivar you plant, you could be setting yourself up for failure if you don’t know the danger signs. USU Extension Entomologist, Diane Alston, joins us today. Among other topics, we’ll learn a little more about the life cycle of the lilac-ash borer.
