Pelicans

Predators like coyotes and foxes, as well as other disturbances, drove the pelicans away. One scientist suspects the birds coming back to the island are too young to be aware of the predators.

Some of Utah's pelicans have found a new home at the Great Salt Lake, after many of the state's pods completely abandoned a long-standing nesting site on another part of the lake last year.

In a recent survey, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources found Gunnison Island to be abandoned by American White Pelicans. Erin Lewis interviews fellow reporter and pelican researcher Aimee Van Tatenhove on the site.
