Utah Bill Proposed to Help Veterans Earn College Credit for Time in Service

Utah Veterans are one step closer to securing college credit for their time spent in training and deployment.

The Utah House voted unanimously Monday to pass a measure requiring the state’s colleges and universities to award credit in exchange for military experience.

The bill’s sponsor, Representative Paul Ray, says the measure would help veterans and active members of the military work toward college degrees without wasting classroom time learning things they already know. He said the bill requires college counselors to aid military students in gaining credits that they will count toward their chosen majors.

The bill now goes to the Senate for approval and must be signed by the governor to take effect.
