A search in Box Elder County in northwestern Utah for a missing light plane carrying two men has been scaled back.
The county Sheriff's Office says the search for the missing red and white Cessna 172 began Friday night after 71-year-old Denny Mansell and 74-year-old Peter Ellis were reported missing.
Ellis is a former Logan resident and Utah State University economics professor and was the passenger in the airplane.
Mansell and Ellis were on a Friday afternoon flight from Odgen-Hinckley Airport to the Promontory area to view trains at the Golden Spike Historical Site.
The search included a personnel on the ground and in aircraft until Sunday when the Box Elder County Sheriff's Office announced it was scaling back the search. At that time, a Department of Public Safety helicopter, as well as the Civil Air Patrol, were dismissed from the search.
The missing plane is a red and white Cessna 172 and was believed to have taken off around 3:30 p.m. Friday. Searchers are asking anyone who attended the event to report possible sightings of the aircraft.
