Governer Herbert adressed press on February 27th to answer any questions people may have on Utah Politics. A common trend in this meeting was theconcern about how the coronavirus will effect Utah.

As concern over coronavirus continues to grow, Govern Gary Herbert said officials in the state are working to ensure Utah is prepared. Although there are currently no confirmed cases of cornoavirus in Utah, people are wondering what would happen if the outbreak began to spread rapidly in the United States.

In his news conference on Thursday, Governor Gary Herbert spoke about state readiness for the issue. He said it's important to not just expect the federal government to address prevention and treatment efforts.

Herbert said, “I'm not relying on Washington DC, I'm relying on our people here in the state. And that's what every state should be doing rely upon their state and their local health departments. We have them in every county. Those are the people on the front lines are going to make sure that we do the right thing in the right way. And that we the people are protected.”

Despite this, the governor said he does expect the federal government to play a part.

“I don't think we're going to be on our alone and certainly as an increased awareness and heightened concern about what's going to take place as we see this spread into different communities at large and headed in our direction. So being prepared and being ready is certainly a key thing," said Herbert. "I think the President has a hard thing to do and trying to say let's make sure we're prepared and ready and not create panic.”

Hebert said that the corona virus will have a “damper effect” on our future economic growth. For example, he says concern over the virus could prevent state lawmakers from passing a tagoverx cut this legislative session.
