Probability of Larger Earthquake on Wednesday Low

Following the earthquake and aftershocks this morning, rumors began to spread that a magnitude 9 earthquake was predicted for later in the day. According to Utah Emergency  Management, this rumor is not true.

A tweet from the department's Twitter account stated that earthquakes can not be predicted, but that they expect the 5.7 earthquake felt just after 7 a.m. this morning was the largest one in the sequence, which is true in 95% of earthquakes.

The Utah Department of Natural Resources tweeted a similar comment with stated that the probablity of a larger earthquake on Wednesday was low.
