Former Shoshone Nation tribal chairman Darren Parry has won the Democratic nomination for Utah’s 1st Congressional district, where nine-term GOP Rep. Rob Bishop is retiring. The Salt Lake Tribune reported Thursday that Parry’s opponent, Jamie Cheek, conceded after a tight race in which Parry won 51% of the vote to her 49%. Cheek trailed by 441 votes after a week of counting by-mail ballots. Parry will face GOP nominee Blake Moore in the Nov. 3 general election. A Democrat has not won the district in 42 years.
