In response to an executive order issued by Utah’s Gov. Spencer Cox and Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson, all state agencies will be required over the next six months to evaluate all jobs within their agencies with the goal of expanding remote work opportunities.
A second executive order issued on Monday requires all state agencies to determine which positions and offices could be relocated to rural areas and what infrastructure would be required to make that a reality. The order also charges agencies to develop educational opportunities for rural residents and to work with the private sector to encourage rural employment opportunities.
According to Cox, the purposes of these executive orders are to expand opportunities in rural Utah, to ease the burdens of pollution and congestion in the state and to reduce the costs of state services to the taxpayer.
