A state lawmaker is proposing a bill that would provide one of Utah’s most vulnerable populations with identification cards.
Sponsored by Rep. Rosemary Lesser, H.B. 352 would require the Utah Department of Workforce Services to work with the driver’s licence division to distribute ID cards, at no cost, to unhoused individuals, according to KUTV.
Lesser posted on Twitter on Thursday, saying “state IDs are crucial, especially when trying to access social services or looking to get a job.”
The bill received unanimous support in the House committee earlier this week and needs to be voted on by the entire House next.
