At the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, visitors are immediately confronted by a stationary bike. It’s an old steel-frame cruiser with rust-colored fenders and a wire basket full of flowers. You’re invited to get in the saddle and put on headphones. A mantra plays as you pedal: “We are strong. We are invincible. We are bicycle riders.”

It’s been presented as a safe alternative to smoking, but health officials in Utah are reporting that vaping is possibly linked to five serious hospitalizations across the state. In a press release last week, the Utah Department of Health said all five patients reported shortness of breath, coughing, fatigue and chest pain, which progressively worsened. The department said it’s unclear whether the patients will suffer long-term health effects.

Call it the Boomerang. That’s the nickname Todd Beutler, the head of CVTD, is using for the new bus route expected to debut next year in Logan. It’s the first major service update for the transit district in 11 years.

On Monday night, a driver of an SUV slammed into another car on Highway 6 in Spanish Fork, causing a collision that killed a motorcyclist. That same night in Logan, a driver of a pick-up truck slammed into a motorcycle, critically injuring one of its riders.

Suffrage Marchers Honor Past And Look To Future

Marchers wearing sunflowers and the purple, white and gold sashes of the suffragist movement made their way down Main Street in Logan on Friday. They walked from the Tabernacle to the Historic Cache County Courthouse in a reenactment of a suffrage march. It was meant to commemorate almost a century since the adoption of the 19thAmendment, which guaranteed women the right to vote.

On a blustery Saturday afternoon at Elk Ridge Park in North Logan, families gathered to take advantage of the wind to get rainbow-colored kites up in the air.

Joggers and bikers who use the bridle path along the Upper Canal linking North Logan and Hyde Park were met with a surprise last month: fences, gates and no trespassing signs.

This week, Utah State University hosted 300 middle and high school students from across Utah and Idaho for the Latino Youth Leadership Boot Camp.

The Cache Valley Transit District carries an average of 5,000 riders every day on its buses. Last week, the Cache County Council voted to reduce the amount CVTD will receive from a new sales tax.

Tributes abounded across Cache Valley this week in honor of 5-year-old Lizzy Shelley of Logan. Following a morning viewing, Shelley’s funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at Nyman Funeral Home. Multicolored ribbons, plush toys, handwritten notes and solemn-faced onlookers dotted the route of the procession from the funeral home to Logan Cemetery, which was led by police, a few hundred motorcyclists and festively decorated tow trucks.
