Investigation Continues In St. George LDS Church Fire

St. George East State Presidency Facebook page

Fire investigators in St. George continue to sift through the charred remnants of a nearly completed building belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  The fire started under suspicious circumstances early Saturday morning.

The building was weeks away from completion and would have served as the Stake Center of St. George East Stake.  Tiffany Atkin, spokesperson for St. George Police Department confirmed that dog used by fire investigators alerted to the presence of an accelerant.

“We are still looking at gathering information on the fire over the weekend," she said. "We are encouraging the public, if you have any information, whether you believe it's small or insignificant, to reach out to us.”

The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Fire Arms is taking part in the investigation.
