One Man Dead In Cedar City Officer-Involved Shooting

A Cedar City man is dead after he pointed a handgun at officers responding to a domestic incident on Monday.

9-1-1 dispatchers received the call from a woman saying her husband had threatened her and their adult son.  Cedar City Police arrived at the home a block east of Main Street and about 800 South and asked the man to come out with hands up.  Instead he emerged pointing a handgun at responding officers.

"The subject approached law enforcement officers while pointing a handgun in their direction. Law enforcement fired muiltiple rounds and the subject was struck,” said Iron County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Del Schlosser.

Emergency Medical personnel were immediately summoned, but the man died at the scene.

A task force from Iron, Garfield and Beaver Counties will investigate.
