Utah Wildfire Updates

The Cottonwood Trail Fire burned an estimated 3,000 acres in Washington County on Sunday evening. Evacuations were ordered and later lifted for Harrisburg; homes in the Angel Heights subdivision west of I-15 in Leeds remained evacuated as of 10:15 p.m. and the Silver Reef subdivision was threatened.

The Red Cross opened a cooling and evacuation center located at the Washington County Fairgrounds Grafton Building in Hurricane, for anyone affected by the fire.

Drivers in Washington County experienced congestion and delays as the freeway reopened after being closed while crews battle the blaze, according to UDOT.

Big Hollow fire was reported to be at 85% containment Sunday afternoon, fire officials reported on Twitter.

At last update, the Big Hollow fire had burned 418 acres. The fire, which started on Thursday, is under investigation and believed to be human-caused.

 

At 14-years-old, Kerry began working as a reporter for KVEL “The Hot One” in Vernal, Utah.
