COVID-19 rates in Utah are continuing to go up. Utah Governor Gary Herbert and health experts continue to urge people to take action.
“I wish today I was coming to you with good news. Really any good news at all. Unfortunately, I'm not. Our cases are at an all time high. Our hospitalizations are at an all time high and will continue to rise if this trend in cases continues," Dr. Eddie Stenehjem said.
Stenehjem is the infectious disease medical expert at Intermountain Healthcare. He spoke at the Governor’s weekly press conference.
There have been nearly 1300 new cases each day and the majority of them come from 16 counties.
Herbert said people need to do more to keep themselves and others safe.
“I think the frustration comes from the fact that not everybody is responding in a very positive way as far as doing their part when it comes to helping to slow the spread of the pandemic," he said.
He urged people to limit social gatherings to ten people or fewer, wear masks in public, and practice social distancing.
Stenehjem said he visits COVID-19 patients in the hospital and said they, along with their families, are suffering.
“I wish I could take all of you with me on these rounds. These rounds teach you the respect you need for this virus," he said.
