Cache Valley Churches Preparing For Easter Celebrations

Local religious organizations are preparing for Easter worship this Sunday while taking extra steps to maintain COVID-19 precautions.

“Last year we didn't get to have Easter services in person because of the shutdown. And we honored that last year, but we're certainly glad that we get to meet in person and celebrate live together, the resurrection,” said John Belles, the lead pastor at the Logan campus location for the Alpine Church, a  non-denominational, evangelical Christian church.

This year they will have four different services on Easter Sunday as well as two different Good Friday services Friday evening.

“We are offering a light breakfast for people on the way out, and then if they want to kind of stay outside and visit they can do that, or they can just take it and go,” Belles said.

Alpine Church isn’t the only group planning on taking advantage of the anticipated nice weather. The First Presbyterian Church in Logan is putting together an Easter worship that can be watched online as well as holding an outdoor service that morning in the peace garden next to the sanctuary. Head of staff pastor, Derek Forbes shared his expectations for the service.

“We'll have a nice, lovely outdoor worship service with our organ player,” Forbes said. “We have a fantastic organist, and he'll be inside the building, but we're going to open up all the windows so we can hear it outside, and I think it'll be a lovely, beautiful morning.”

Both churches ask that participants wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines. For those celebrating with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, two sessions of General Conference will be held Saturday and Sunday with musical performances from the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square as well as sermons from church leaders. These services can be watched online.
