Police Release Identity Of Man Involved In Standoff

Salt Lake City Police have released the identity of Nevada Escholt, age 42, after he was found dead in an apartment following a standoff with SWAT team officers.

On Tuesday at 11:30 a.m police were called to a four-plex after receiving calls about a suicidal person. They could see Escholt inside one of the apartments and according to police, at some point “shots were fired at the officers” and the officers returned fire while taking cover.

A SWAT team was then called, and by 5 p.m the incident was over. A robot was sent inside the apartment to confirm Escholt was deceased.

Police say the incident is still under investigation.
