Utah Seeing Half The COVID Cases As Last Spike, But The Same Number Of Hospitalizations

The number of people in Utah hospitals with COVID-19 is at its highest point since February of this year, but there are only half as many cases today than there were earlier this year.On Wednesday, the Utah Department of Health reported 350 people in the hospital and a rolling 7-day average of 646 cases. In early February, there were 352 hospitalizations and a 7-day average of 1,334 new cases.

University of Utah chief medical operations officer Russell Vinik says their ICU is at roughly 90%. He says the numbers and cases are “going up quite quickly.” In addition to that, Vinik says nurse and staff retention has recently dropped significantly.
