The Utah National Guard is preparing to deploy about 50 service members to the U.S.-Mexico border later this year. The deployed members will provide general support and man mobile surveillance camera sites, according to federal defense spokesman Lt. Emery van Broekhuizen.

The guard members from Utah will be joining members from more than 20 other states who are responding to a request from the Department of Homeland Security.

There are roughly 120 Utahns currently serving at the border, and they are expected to return home within the next few months.
