Election integrity was a main focus on Capitol Hill Wednesday. A large group of people and some Utah lawmakers filled the steps of the Capitol to call for an audit of the 2020 election.Despite Donald Trump winning Utah in 2020, some want an investigation into every vote cast. When asked why he cares about an audit after Trump clearly won in the state, Representative Steven Christiansen says “it goes much deeper than Donald J. Trump.”
Some other states, like Arizona, have already conducted audits. Arizona’s audit cost the state an estimated 6 to 8 million dollars. Utah Governor Spencer Cox has been critical of an audit because he says it would be “a waste of taxpayer money.”
After Wednesday’s nearly three-hour hearing, the legislature’s judiciary committee took no action.
